Shameless Crowd Pleaser is a choreographic cross disciplinary collaboration between an unlikely combination of highly skilled artists. Using whatever materials they can get their hands on, the performers steal from the realms of dance, music, everyday language, and object manipulation in order to create unusual performance mutations and possible worlds. Thought provoking, funny, poignant, and evocative Shameless Crowd Pleaser celebrates the mundane and the absurd.
Featuring dancers Kristian Larsen, Georgie Goater, and Julia Milsom, sound artist Bonehead, object manipulator John Radford, musician John Bell, guitarist Paul Buckton and other mystery guests, this talented ensemble of artists create a unique, highly innovative and constantly shifting theatrical experience - a world in which the logical and irrational meet head on.
Shameless Crowd Pleaser’s debut work Nest was nominated for three awards in the 2010 Tempo Dance Festival. Dancer Kristian Larsen has won numerous awards for choreography and performance including 2009 Best Dance Show in the Dunedin Fringe Festival, Most Innovative Choreography in Tempo Dance Festival, 2010 and the Listener Speedway Award for Buoy Racer in 2011. He has also worked extensively as a performer / collaborator with many internationally recognised artists including Jerome Bel, Min Tanaka, Hans Van Den Broeck, and Magpie Dance Music Company.
Julia Milsom, Artistic Director of Christchurch based Corrupt Productions and Tup Lang Scholarship recipient, brings her unique physicality to Shameless Crowd Pleaser. An emerging choreographer in her own right, Milsom is a creative force to be reckoned with. Special guest Georgie Goater is no stranger to NZ contemporary dance audiences. One of Back-Lit’s brightest stars, Goater brings her considerable stage charisma and effortless movement into the Shameless Crowd Pleaser milieu.
